    Women's Spearfishing Wetsuits

When it comes to Spearfishing wetsuits for women you won't find a bigger range anywhere!  A spearo suit is typically 2 pieces without a zip and have a foam pad laid into the sternum/solarplexus to make loading your speargun more comfortable, and less likely to damage the soft wetsuit. Other than the pad, and added durability, they're the same as a freediving wetsuit. We love all things ocean, especially being in it, so it's only natural for us to range some of the best diving wet suits! Whether you go a two or one piece diving wetty you can be assured you're getting a product that has been optimised for diving, as there is a difference between surfing suits and diving suits.  You can learn more about these differences here

What's the difference between a spearfishing and freediving wetsuit?

The difference between a freediving and spearfishing wetsuit is that spearfishing wetsuits have a loading pad on the torso - this is to reduce discomfort caused when loading your speargun.  On the freediving side, typically designers opt for a complete external lining of 'smooth skin' because it's has the least drag, however smoothskin can be extremely brittle.  Our recommendation is that if you're only ever swimming in a pool or down a rope, go for a freediving wetsuit - if you're swimming around rocks, maybe spearing every now and then but also freediving go for a spearfishing suit and get a suit that does both!

Two Piece suits are stretchier in that they don't have a zip and let you customise your fit to suit the length of your torso, a single price suit can't provide this customisation due to the zip.  They are also warmer because there is a) no way for water to enter the zip, because there's no zip and b) give you twice the thickness around your torso - because you have to overlap the top and pants, some 2 peice suits come with a long-john pant that goes over your shoulders!

    WHAT IS OPEN CELL?

What we find in spearfishing wetsuits, but in almost no other specialised wetties is what is commonly refer to as an Open Cell lining and is substantially warmer than the standard nylon lining, albeit a chore. Neoprene, as we know it, is a 3 layer sandwich with the outer layers typically being nylon or spandex etc to provide durability.  If you remove the lining you're in contact with the core material which is basically rubber full of closed-cell bubbles and on the edge of this sheet you'll find bubbles that are partially exposed (like holey cheese).  These create suction against your skin which means there's no spare volume in the suit to hold water. Furthermore, the core material does not absorb water which means water cant seep into the suit through the core or the lining.  The seal that results is why Open-Cell wetsuits are the popular choice in spearfishing.

Caution: Open-Cell lined wetsuit can be extremely sticky and require lubricant (Wetsuit Slime) to get into without causing damage, or losing hair.  If you would rather no lubricate your hair we recommend paying extra care with the hood!
