Spearfishing

If you are working into spearfishing, a standard scuba diving wetsuit will limit you, as you’ll need a loading pad on the chest, reinforced elbows and knees and probably would prefer a two-piece over a one-piece.  You’ll also want a black or camouflage wetsuit, to go unnoticed when hunting. When selecting a spearfishing wetsuit, choose a blue camouflage pattern for the open ocean and green/ brown for reef hunting.

Wetsuit Warehouse has a great variety of spearfishing wetsuits that keep you protected and warm in the water!

Which type of spearfishing wetsuit to choose?
The thickness of the spearfishing wetsuit you need, depends on the water temperature where you are diving and whether you are susceptible to the cold.
- Go for a 3-5mm in warm and temperate waters
- Go for a 6-7mm in colder waters

A two-piece spearfishing wetsuit is more versatile than a one-piece spearfishing wetsuit, because you can use it for winter and summer by wearing just the top with shorts when the water is warmer.

Spearfishing wetsuits often have an open-cell neoprene interior, which offers extra warmth because it ‘sucks’ close to the skin. They offer more streamline too for the same reason. The raw neoprene on the inside makes this type of spearfishing wetsuit more fragile, but if you look after it you’ll have it for years. You’ll also need lubrication to fit these spearfishing wetsuits.

For easy-to-slip-on spearfishing wetsuits choose Smoothskin or reversible spearfishing wetsuits. They can be fit without lubricant, dry quicker, and also provide protection from the wind. Nylon exteriors can protect your spearfishing wetsuit from reefs.

For extra warmth you could also wear an insulating / thermal vest underneath your spearfishing wetsuit . Those are available on Wetsuit Warehouse too.
